Dear family and friends,

LMayorga.M&Zbabyshower.2012It is with great sadness that we report the death of our dad/abuelo Luis Enrique Mayorga. After experiencing increased
fluid in his lungs (a problem related to his diabetes) on Monday night, dad went into cardiac arrest on his way to the hospital. The wonderful staff at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier were able to revive and stabilize his body, but he remained in a coma. He peacefully passed on Sunday evening at 11:53 pm. He was surrounded by members of his immediate family and his brother, Marlon Mayorga’s, family over the last few days.

Dad was born on July 15, 1955 in Leon, Nicaragua. He would move to the United States in 1973 and would marry Maria Elena Chang in October of 1975.

Our dad was a luchador, a fighter, a family advocate. Dad enlisted in the US Army in 1977 and he would spend the next 11 years in as a soldier in both active duty and in the reserve. He would end his military service as a Staff Sergeant (Rank of E-6). In 1983/1984 dad began to show signs of having polymyositis, a chronic inflammatory diseases of muscle. He would live with the disease for the rest of his life, defying the initial prognosis that he would live for three years at most. While forced to retire from working at the age of 33, he remained very active. He, along with our mother, were often involved in our school lives and after-school activities. He supported us in our on going educational and professional aspirations, and he would stand up and fight for his children, and our mom, at all times. Life was never easy for our dad, but he endured, and we feel that he is now able to rest peacefully.

2014-06-04 00.58.48We want to thank everyone for your messages of love and support. We are particularly grateful to our tio Marlon
Mayorga and his family, tia Eufemia; cousins Jessica, Marlon, Paul and Kevin; partners Bianca, Edna, and Krystal; nieces/nephew Mylee, Zoe, and Kellen, for being there with us over the last week. Big hugs to you all.
